Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press conference where he emphasized that while Democrats are fighting to save the healthcare of the American people, Donald Trump and House Republicans are recklessly marching our government to the brink of a shutdown.

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries appeared on MSNBC's The Last Word and made clear that while Donald Trump and Republicans are leading us toward a reckless government shutdown, Democrats will continue to fight to protect the healthcare of the American people. 

LEADER JEFFRIES: Good afternoon, everyone. Let me begin by expressing our heartfelt condolences, prayers and sympathies to the families of the victims of the shooting that occurred earlier today at the ICE facility in Dallas. We're also very thankful and appreciative of the first responders who showed up on the scene, raced toward danger and secured the situation to prevent any further carnage. The level of political violence and ideologically motivated violence across the spectrum is far too high in the United States of America right now.

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries appeared on MSNBC's Deadline White House to discuss how House Democrats are aggressively pushing back against Donald Trump's efforts to continue to gut the healthcare of the American people and threaten the American people with a painful government shutdown. 

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press conference about Donald Trump canceling a planned meeting to discuss government funding and how House Democrats are continuing to hold the line against the out-of-control Republican attack on the healthcare of the American people.

Dear Colleague:

I write in connection with the pending Republican shutdown of the federal government. 

Last Friday, Democrats strongly opposed the partisan Republican spending bill in the House and the Senate, and it went down in defeat. The next day Leader Schumer and myself demanded that Donald Trump meet with us in order to address the ongoing Republican healthcare crisis and prevent a lapse in government funding. On Monday, President Trump formally agreed to a meeting in the Oval Office.
