LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE MURDER OF NYPD OFFICER DIDARUL ISLAM

Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:

I join millions of New Yorkers in mourning the horrific murder of New York Police Department officer Didarul Islam in yesterday’s tragic, senseless mass shooting. 

Officer Islam is a hero and we owe him an eternal debt of gratitude for his courage and service. He immigrated from Bangladesh, choosing to make New York his home, raise his family here and protect and serve the City in uniform. 

Officer Islam was tragically killed protecting others in the selfless tradition of New York’s Finest. He represents the very best of New York City and our immigrant journey. As New Yorkers, we must and will be there for his wife, two young kids, the third child who is on the way and the Bangladeshi American community. May he forever rest in peace.
