LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE MAY JOBS REPORT

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 339,000 in May:

The May Jobs Report crushed expectations and is further proof that our economy is continuing to grow at a strong and steady pace with no signs of stopping. Under the leadership of President Biden, we have made a historic economic recovery and over 13 million good-paying jobs have been created – more jobs in 28 months than any President has created in an entire four-year term. 

Extreme MAGA Republicans are determined to undo this progress and spent months threatening to detonate our economy if they didn’t get their way. House Democrats are working to build an economy that works for everyday Americans while the extremists have shown that they’re willing to put politics over people by defaulting on our nation’s debt. House Democrats and the Biden administration will continue to build an economy from the middle out and the ground up.
