LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON MASS SHOOTING IN LOUISVILLE, KY

April 10, 2023

BROOKLYN, NY – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement on the mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky:

House Democrats are praying for the victims and their families and the people of Louisville, another community that has been affected by the plague of senseless gun violence in America. This is the 146th mass shooting this year alone. We cannot look away. It's time for this Congress to take action and end this carnage in our communities.

The kind of deadly assault weapon used in today’s shooting is not used to hunt deer. Weapons of war are being used to hunt human beings and gun down families at schools, parades, supermarkets, malls, parking lots, movie theaters and their workplaces. They have no place in a civilized society. Extreme MAGA Republicans need to bring an assault weapons ban and universal criminal background check legislation to the floor so we can debate this issue in front of the American people and end this epidemic once and for all.
