LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON LUNAR NEW YEAR

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement in recognition of Lunar New Year: 

“Happy Lunar New Year to all celebrating in the United States and across the globe. Today is a day of togetherness and new beginnings, as we wish for prosperity and good health for the year ahead. 

Sadly, too many hearts are heavy with grief on this holiday after another incident of senseless gun violence in our country. House Democrats are holding Monterey Park, California, in our prayers after the mass shooting at Lunar New Year’s Eve festivities in one of the most vibrant Asian American communities in the nation. 

This year, may we recommit to a future that embraces our diversity and where all of our neighbors have equal opportunity at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
