LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON JUNETEENTH

Brooklyn, NY — Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement on Juneteenth.

Today, we celebrate the triumph of hope and remember the struggle to achieve freedom for enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth both represents a recognition of past wrongs and serves as a reminder of the incredible resilience of the African American community over the course of our nation’s history.

America is a great country. We have come a long way from where we started in terms of achieving opportunity for every community. Juneteenth also serves as a call to action so that we can complete the work of lifting up the principle of liberty and justice for all. House Democrats will continue the fight for social justice, economic justice and racial justice in our enduring march toward a more perfect union.
