LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON JANUARY JOBS REPORT

BROOKLYN, NY— Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 517,000 in January and the unemployment rate dropped to 3.4%.  

Democrats have been hard at work to deliver results and make life better for everyday Americans and the record-breaking jobs report out today shows that our economic plan is working. Economic growth is up, inflation is down, wages are up, gas prices are down and more than 12 million good-paying jobs have been created during President Biden's first two years – a record in modern American history. Today’s report also showed that the United States is at its lowest unemployment rate in over half a century, as the Biden economy continues to exceed expectations.  

Democrats have remained committed to securing lower costs, better-paying jobs and delivering for everyday Americans in every single zip code. The January Jobs Report shows that our economy is continuing to grow at a strong and steady pace with no signs of stopping. While Extreme MAGA Republicans are crafting a plan that will implement a 30% sales tax for working families, explode the deficit and slash Social Security and Medicare, House Democrats remain committed to building on the historic economic agenda of the Biden administration.
