LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON ISLAMOPHOBIC ATTACK IN BROOKLYN
Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:
I am horrified by the hateful attack yesterday at a mosque and community center in East New York. While I am grateful that no one was injured, I join our Muslim brothers and sisters, Brooklyn’s vibrant Bangladeshi-American community and all people of goodwill in being outraged at the fact that anyone would be targeted just for participating in afternoon prayers.
Every New Yorker should have the right to freely exercise their religion. The harassment of any person based on their faith is unconscionable, unacceptable and un-American. There is no place for Islamophobia in our city or society.
I am thankful for the men and women of the NYPD for their swift action and for their work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
