LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON COLUMBIA STUDENT DETAINMENT BY DHS

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement: 

Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security is out of control. Without any proper warrant, while impersonating NYPD officers and under false pretenses, ICE entered a Columbia University student’s residence and detained her. As we have repeatedly demanded, judicial warrants must be obtained before ICE enters any and all private property. The student must not be moved from NYC until a meaningful legal review of her case has taken place and released immediately while the judicial process unfolds. The American people are demanding an end to the ICE lawlessness being unleashed on our communities, which is why Democrats have not allowed a bill to fund further brutality to move forward.
