LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON ASSISTANT DEMOCRATIC LEADER JIM CLYBURN

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued the following statement:

For more than two decades, the Honorable Jim Clyburn has served at the highest levels of Democratic leadership, including eight years as House Majority Whip. During that time, Jim played a major role in every significant legislative accomplishment, including the Affordable Care Act, American Rescue Plan, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. These enormous legislative achievements have changed millions of lives for the better. Rep. Clyburn has been a moral compass and powerful voice encouraging the Congress to be effective, equitable and ethical public servants. We are all better representatives because of Jim’s stewardship. 

Personally, Jim Clyburn has been an incredible mentor, adviser and source of inspiration throughout my entire congressional journey. It is an honor to stand on Jim’s historic and iconic shoulders.

With or without a formal title, the people of South Carolina will continue to have a champion in Congress who is a voice for the voiceless and a defender of democracy. We are all grateful to Jim Clyburn for what he has done and will continue to do for the community, the Civil Rights movement, the Congress, the Constitution and the country. America is a better place because of the time James E. Clyburn has spent serving in House leadership.
