LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH

Brooklyn, NY – Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued the following statement in recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month:

During Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month we celebrate all of the AANHPI communities that have shaped our nation’s history and have made America the country that it is today. Our diversity is our strength, and whether it be through the arts, technology, business, or public service, this month we recognize and uplift the rich history and immeasurable contributions of the AANHPI community. AANHPI history is American history. 

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has fueled a new surge in xenophobia and anti-Asian hate. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we fight back against the hateful speech and violent attacks on the AANHPI community. This month and every month, House Democrats stand with our AANHPI colleagues, friends and neighbors as we strive to fulfill our nation’s promise of liberty and justice for all and march towards a more perfect union.
