LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON 5TH CIRCUIT RULING

BROOKLYN, NY – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a partial stay in Judge Kacsmaryk’s decision to suspend FDA approval of mifepristone.

Today’s 5th Circuit’s ruling turns back the clock by reinstating outdated restrictions on Mifepristone that will delay and restrict access to abortion for millions of women. Mifepristone has been used safely and effectively for decades as a form of reproductive care and this dangerous ruling by extreme, right-wing judges unleashes unnecessary chaos on our health care system and sets a dangerous precedent. Hundreds of pharmaceutical companies have warned that the entire FDA regulatory process could be upended and medical innovation will come to a halt if these decisions are allowed to stand.

Extreme MAGA Republicans know that their radical anti-abortion views are too unpopular to win elections, so they’re using the courts to carry out their extreme agenda as they attempt to institute a nationwide abortion ban. House Democrats will always stand on the side of reproductive freedom. We will not let the extremists win.
