Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press availability with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, in which he made clear that Democrats are ready to find a bipartisan resolution to the Republican government shutdown and are united in protecting the American people from the Republican healthcare crisis.
LEADER JEFFRIES: Let me thank Leader Schumer and Senate Democrats for continuing to stand up strongly and boldly in defense of the healthcare of the American people. The partisan Republican spending bill that guts the healthcare of the American people has now been defeated a total of ten times. Yet Senate Republicans continue to do the same exact thing and expect different results. That's the classic definition of legislative insanity. The problem is Republicans aren't serious as it relates to solving the affordable healthcare crisis that they've created, solving the cost-of-living crisis that they've made worse. As Democrats, we've made clear we will sit down anytime, anyplace, with anyone to find a bipartisan path forward to reopening the government, standing by our hardworking federal civil servants, enacting a spending agreement that actually makes life better for the American people and decisively addressing the Republican healthcare crisis, which is devastating everyday Americans all across the country.
