LEADER JEFFRIES: "EXTREME MAGA REPUBLICANS ARE FOCUSED ON BANNING ABORTION, BANNING BOOKS AND BULLYING KIDS"
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held his weekly press conference where he highlighted that while House Democrats are continuing to put People Over Politics and address the issues that everyday Americans care about, extreme MAGA Republicans are focused on banning abortion, banning books and bullying trans kids.
LEADER JEFFRIES: Good morning everyone. It's good to be back after our district work period earlier this month. This week has once again been clarifying, in terms of what the extreme MAGA Republicans are all about. We have real challenges in America and House Democrats are continuing to focus on putting People Over Politics, working on lower costs, better paying jobs, safer communities, defending democracy, fighting for reproductive freedom, combating the gun violence epidemic, protecting and strengthening Social Security and building an economy from the middle out and the ground up. That's what House Democrats are focused on, to make life better for everyday Americans.
Extreme MAGA Republicans, from the very beginning of the 118th Congress, have been focused on banning abortion care and bullying women, banning books about our history and bullying parents and this week they decided that they want to ban trans children from playing sports and bullying kids. That's the extreme MAGA Republican agenda. They're not focused on the economy, not focused on jobs, not focused on health care, not focused on inflation, not focused on public safety. In fact, they want to defund the FBI and defund the Department of Justice.
The extreme MAGA Republicans are showing the American people who they are. They're not even trying to hide their extremism and Exhibit A is Marjorie Taylor Greene. She's totally out of control, but they don't care. The leadership apparently supports Marjorie Taylor Greene. The rank and file Republicans apparently support Marjorie Taylor Greene. She's allowed to lie. She's allowed to debase the institution. Apparently, Marjorie Taylor Greene is even allowed to elevate someone who appears to have engaged in espionage and treason against the United States of America and it doesn't matter because Marjorie Taylor Greene is the face of this version of the House Republican Conference.
