Leader-Elect Jeffries Statement on Final Meeting of Select Committee to Investigate January 6th

“The Members of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol have done tremendous work to uncover what happened on that deadly day and to preserve our democracy. I am grateful to Chairman Bennie Thompson for his steadfast, solemn leadership of this bipartisan effort. The Caucus, the Congress and the country owe Chairman Thompson, Vice Chair Liz Cheney and all of the committee Members a debt of gratitude for their service.

In a democracy, nobody is above the law, including the President of the United States. The evidence presented by the Committee throughout the course of its investigation makes a compelling case for the criminal referrals issued today. It is my expectation that the Department of Justice will continue to follow the facts, apply the law and be guided by the Constitution as it pursues justice on behalf of the American people for this attack against our democracy.”
