Incoming Leader Jeffries Announces Morelle Nomination as Ranking Member of Committee on House Administration
Washington, D.C. – Incoming Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced today that he is nominating Congressman Joe Morelle of New York to serve as Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration for the 118th Congress.
“Congressman Joe Morelle is a leader in our Caucus who is deeply respected by Members on both sides of the aisle for his ability to bring people together to get things done. His reputation as a problem solver and fighter for our Democratic values dates back to his service as Majority Leader in the New York State Assembly.
In Congress, Joe has been a champion for Upstate New York and has worked relentlessly to lower costs for working families. He brings a depth of experience to this critical role as a result of his dedicated service on the Rules, Budget and Appropriations Committees.
I also want to commend outgoing House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren for her tremendous leadership of the committee. Chair Lofgren led House Democrats in passing landmark campaign finance reform, championed investments in the hardworking staff of the Capitol Hill community, guided Members and offices through a once-in-a-century pandemic, defended our democracy and helped address the pressing safety concerns we confront with the rise of violent extremism.
The House of Representatives is the institution designed by our framers to be the closest to the people, and I look forward to working with Congressman Morelle to ensure that the People’s House remains effective, efficient and equitable. The House Democratic Caucus will consider this nomination in the coming days."
