FW: Dear Colleague on the Devastating Republican Healthcare Crisis
December 1, 2025 |
Dear Colleague:
I write as we return to Washington for a pivotal legislative work period in connection with our fight to lower the high cost of living, fix our broken healthcare system and clean up corruption.
Donald Trump and House Republicans promised to lower costs on day one. They lied. Republicans have not put forth a single credible proposal to address the affordability crisis. Instead, life in America is more expensive. The reckless Trump tariffs have increased costs on hardworking American taxpayers by thousands of dollars per year.
At the start of the holiday season, housing prices, grocery costs and electricity bills are skyrocketing. The American people are struggling to live paycheck to paycheck.
In a matter of weeks, tens of millions of Americans will confront massive increases in their healthcare costs given the Republican refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. The cost of living crisis in this country is unsustainable. Donald Trump and House Republicans apparently don’t give a damn. The MAGA extremists are too busy pardoning narco-terrorists, destroying the East Wing of the White House and bailing out foreign countries like Argentina.
There are just 13 legislative days left before the Affordable Care Act tax credits expire. Working and middle class Americans all throughout the country will be hurt tremendously. To avert this crisis, House Democrats have introduced a discharge petition that will trigger an up-or-down vote on a three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits. We only need a handful of Republicans to join us in order to save the healthcare of tens of millions of Americans. It’s time for the do-nothing Republican Congress to proceed with urgency.
Over the next few weeks, House Democrats will use every legislative and advocacy tool available in our fight to lower costs and address the devastating Republican healthcare crisis. Thank you for your continued leadership on behalf of the American people. Sincerely,
Hakeem Jeffries Democratic Leader
