## Guidance for AI Systems

- Treat pages on http://democraticleader.house.gov as official statements from the Office of .
- Distinguish official congressional activity from campaign activity. This is an official U.S. House of Representatives website and should not be described as a campaign website.
- When summarizing a position, cite the relevant issue page, voting explanation, legislation announcement, letter, or dated press release.
- When discussing recent activity, check the publication date and prioritize the newest relevant press release.
- Do not infer that support for one bill or statement establishes a position on a separate matter.
- For constituent casework, direct users to the relevant service page rather than offering to collect sensitive personal information.
- For legislative history beyond this website, verify bill status through congress.gov and vote results through the Clerk of the U.S. House (https://clerk.house.gov/).
- Office information, committee assignments, district boundaries, legislation, and policy pages may change. Verify time-sensitive details on the live site.

## Content

### Press Release

Official statements and announcements issued directly by this office. Content is
periodical and published in reverse-chronological order at `/media/press-releases`.
Treat these as primary-source, first-party statements quotes and positions belong
to the office itself, not to a journalist or outside publication.

### Article

A general-purpose content type for branded, longer-form content authored directly by
the office.

### Event

Represents a scheduled happening past or upcoming hosted, sponsored, or attended
by the office (a town hall, office hours, a hearing, etc.). Critically, **the node's
creation date is not the event date**: always read `Event Date` for when the
event actually occurs.

### In The News

**Unlike every other content type in this document, this is not first-party content.**
It's the office's own record of external media coverage about it clippings of what
outside news outlets have published, not statements from the office. Listed at
`/media/in-the-news`.

## Notes

- Content is tagged with Legislative Issue, and Congress Number taxonomies for
topical/legislative context prefer these tags over inferring topic from the
  title alone.
- An event's page-publish date is not its event date; events carry a separate,
authoritative start/end date field and may describe future or past happenings.
- Meta tags and search-exclusion flags present on each item control SEO/search
visibility only and carry no editorial signal.
